Frances B. Vick was born in Trinity, Texas in East Texas. Technically the region is on the western edge of what foresters refer to as the "Piney Woods" and Fran's ancestors referred reverently to as "The Big Thicket." The progeny of a rich and colorful cast of characters, Fran keeps them and their contemporaries alive through her tireless work with authors, educators and philanthropists who are as smitten with and dedicated to the folklore and history of Texas as is she.
Fran's publishing efforts date back to the 1970's when she was invited to produce the Texas Folklore Society publications. She began her own publishing company E-Heart Press to accomplish this early goal. Her work there led to several interesting opportunities resulting in being tapped as the Founding Director of the University of North Texas Press. In her "retirement" Fran energetically pursues literary issues and opportunities.
